PM Modi inaugurates redeveloped Rani Kamlapati Railway Station in Bhopal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the revamped Rani Kamalpati railway station in Bhopal on Monday. The Prime Minister is in Bhopal on the occasion of ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’, celebrated on the birth anniversary of the tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda.

Rani Kamlapati Railway Station is the first world-class model station in the country and has all the facilities that are available at international airports. It has been developed under a public-private partnership and built by a private company. The total cost of the station project is around Rs 450 crore.

To control the crowd, separate entry and exit gates are there. Escalators and lifts have been installed at the station to reach the platform. A seating arrangement of 700 to 1,100 passengers has been made in the open concourse. For information about the movement of trains, display boards with different languages have been installed throughout the station.

Previously known as Habibanj, the “most modern” railway station has been renamed after Gond queen Rani Kamlapati.

This comes after the Madhya Pradesh government wrote to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs about renaming the upgraded Habibganj railway station, stating that it will honour the legacy and bravery of the widow of the Gond ruler of Nizam Shah.

“Not only has this historic railway station been redeveloped but with the linking of the name of Rani Kamlapati of Ginnorgarh to this station, its importance has also increased. Railway’s pride is now linked to pride of Gondwana,” PM Modi said during the inauguration ceremony.

The station has been redeveloped at a cost of around Rs 450 crore in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Designed as a green building, this railway station has all the modern world-class amenities that also take into account ease of mobility for the physically challenged.
