Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar addresses Leeds-2022 conference

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the country has the capacity to meet the food requirements of a large part of the world as India is moving fast to become world leader in the agriculture sector.

Mr. Tomar virtually addressed the Leeds-2022 conference organized by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi on Tuesday. In the session on Food for All-Farm to Fork, the Minister said, the country’s agriculture sector has registered a growth of 3.9 percent despite the Covid pandemic.

He said, agriculture has expanded significantly in the country in recent years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, India has emerged as the second largest food producer in the world and its agricultural exports crossed the four lakh crore rupees mark.

He said, the government is continuously working for the growth of small farmers. He added that many schemes for the agriculture sector have been implemented to increase the income of farmers and reduce the agricultural challenges. Mr. Tomar said, the government is committed to invest more than 70 thousand crore rupees in the fisheries sector by the year 2024-25 under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
