Need to work together for stronger recovery and resilience across globe: Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav
Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav has asserted that any initiative to address the contemporary environmental challenge should be on the basis of equity and principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.
He said, climate change is a global phenomenon but its negative impacts are more severely felt by the poor and vulnerable, especially in developing countries. Mr. Yadav said this while addressing the G20 Joint Environment and Climate Ministers Meeting in Bali.
The Minister added that climate change phenomenon is deeply unfair as those who contributed least to it from developing countries will be most severely hit by the impact of global warming.
Mr. Yadav underlined the need to work together for stronger recovery and resilience across the globe, leaving no one behind especially, the most vulnerable sections of the society.
He reminded this at the heart of the 2030 agenda of sustainable development. He also cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of LiFE – ‘Lifestyle For Environment’ for sustainable development.
The Minister highlighted that LiFE as a global movement needed today to move away from mindless and destructive consumption to mindful and deliberate utilisation.
He said, India’s effort towards clean energy and energy securitry, low carbon and efficient industrial growth, sustainable agriculture and low carbon living affirm its commitment to a transformative shift towards sustainable lifestyle for all.
Speaking on the concluding day of the G20 meeting, Mr. Yadav informed, India will assume the G20 Presidency from the 1st of December 2022 and there shall be meetings, side events, workshops, seminars, and site visits across different cities.
