8,771 pilgrims left Jammu for holy Amarnath cave, over 90,000 paid obeisance till date
In the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, a fresh batch of 8,771 pilgrims on Friday morning left Jammu’s Baghwati Nagar base camp and started their journey to Kashmir valley for holy Amarnath cave, officials said.
The officials said the 8,771 devotees left the Jammu base camp at 03:40 am in the morning in two batches and will reach the holy cave via Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
The officials informed pilgrims leaving Jammu base camp today to travel through Baltal route include 1,808 males, 709 females, 33 children, 61 sadhus, 7 sadhvis. These 2618 pilgrims started their journey in 42 HMVs and 79 LMVs, they added.
Similarly of 6,153 pilgrims who started their journey to have a glimpse of holy cave via Pahalgam route include 4,081 males, 1,924 females, 12 children, 119 sadhus, 17 sadhvis and travelled in 103 HMVs, 92 LMVs and 1 motorcycle.
Earlier in the day the annual Amarnath Yatra was stopped at Ramban district where overnight rains had triggered fresh landslides and mudslides on 270-km long Jammu-Srinagar highway.
“The Srinagar-Jammu highway was blocked due to landslides and mudslides at several points following heavy midnight rains”
He added, “The fresh batch of Amarnath pilgrims who left Jammu on Friday morning had reached Yatri Niwas in Ramban and will leave for Pahalgam and Baltal base camps in Kashmir in the forthcoming hour”.
The officials said with the arrival of the fresh batch, over 90,000 devotees paid obeisance to the holy Amarnath cave.
