4 terrorists killed in twin south Kashmir encounters
Four terrorists, including one responsible for the killing of a school teacher from Samba, were killed in twin gunfights in Kulgam and Anantnag districts on Thursday, police said.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar told Rising Kashmir that four terrorists were killed in joint operations of security forces in Kulgam and Anantnag districts.
“One among the slain terrorists, Zubair Sofi of Mohanpora Kulgam was involved in killing of school teacher Rajni Bala on May 31. Sofi has joined terror ranks in September 2021,” he said.
Similarly, IGP Kumar said two Hizbul Mujahideen militants have been killed in an encounter in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
IGP Kumar said slain terrorists were identified as Junaid and Basit Bhat of Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit.
“Terrorist Basit was involved in killing of BJP’s Sarpanch Gh Rasool Dar & his wife, a Panch on 9/8/21 in Anantnag, he said.
A police spokesman said ‘on Tuesday, acting on specific information about the presence of terrorists in village Mishipora area of Kulgam, police along with 1st RR launched a cordon and search operation in the said area.
As the joint party proceeded towards the suspected spot the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated effectively by the joint forces, he said.
The police spokesman said the hiding terrorists managed to shift their base consistently in the village after the initial exchange of fire and tried to breach the cordon but the cordon remained firmly intact and search was going on for the past two days to nab them.
“On Thursday, the contact was re-established with the hiding terrorists and the encounter was resumed. In the ensuing encounter 02 terrorists of HM outfit were killed so far,” he said.
Police identified the slain as Zubair Sofi of Mohan Pora Kulgam while the identification of another terrorist is being ascertained. The operation is still in progress,” the spokesman said.
In another anti-terrorist operation, that was launched by Police, Army (19 RR) and 164 Bn CRPF at Hangalgund area of Anantnag district. In the said operation, one terrorist was so far killed and the operation is still going on, the spokesman said.
15 Kg IED recovered in Pulwama
Security forces on Thursday recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) in Armullah area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and two OGW’s were arrested so far in the case, police said.
Acting on a specific intelligence input that terrorists have planted an IED on the Armullah area of the south Kashmir district, a search operation was launched by the security forces, he said.
He said Pulwama police and security forces recovered 15Kg IED in village Armullah in the jurisdiction of Police Station Litter and averted a possible major tragedy.
Police arrested two (02) terrorist associates identified as Mohammad Younis Mir son of Parvaiz Ahmad Mir & Jan Mohammad Ganie son of Ghulam Nabi Ganie, both residents of village Armullah Pulwama.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 65/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Litter & further investigation has been initiated. Further details regarding both the operations shall follow.
On Wednesday, two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists, including one responsible for the killing of a bank manager from Rajasthan, were killed in an overnight gunfight in the Kanji Ullar area of Shopian.
