125 passengers on chartered flight from Italy test COVID positive at Amritsar airport

As many as 125 passengers of an international chartered flight from Italy have tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival at Amritsar airport, reports ANI.

This comes amid the country witnessing an unprecedented spike in new coronavirus infections. A total of 90,928 new COVID-19 cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) earlier today.

With new infections, the country’s daily COVID positivity rate stands at 6.43 per cent, while the weekly rate has surged to 3.47 per cent. The COVID-19 death toll in India has risen 4,82,876 as 325 more patients succumbed to the deadly virus yesterday.

The active caseload in the country stands at 2,85,401. As many as 19,206 patients recovered from COVID-19 during this period, taking the total number of recoveries in India to  3,43,41,009.

COVID situation in Punjab

A total of 1811 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Punjab in the last 24 hours, taking the total infections in the state has reached 6,08,723, according to the health department.

The four new COVID-related fatalities pushed the death toll in Punjab to 16,657. The COVID-19 positivity rate in the state also rose to 7.95 per cent from 6.49 per cent a day before.

In Punjab, Patiala was the worst-affected district with 598 fresh infections, followed by Mohali with 300, Ludhiana with 203, and Jalandhar with 183, the data showed.
